Variation of thickness, internal structure and petrophysical properties in a deformation band fault zone in siliciclastic rocks

We studied the geometry and petrophysical properties of fault core damage zones a deformation band zone in arkosic sandstones Cretaceous Antenor Navarro Formation Rio do Peixe Basin, Brazil. The present work includes results from fieldwork laboratory measurements. performed structural, geometric, permeability measurements field. These were on longitudinal scanline along 18 orthogonal scanlines crossing both footwall hanging wall. Drone images taken field locality to study geometric relation between individual bands zone. Porosity, capillary pressure grain size analyses samples. is normal composed three linked segments, central E-W segment which hard-linked two NE-SW segments tipping toward east west. Our show that thickest segment. narrower around part (E-W segment) widens westward wall footwall, beyond this point wider than has lowest porosity highest threshold pressure, therefore, increasing sealing capacity. Permeability parallel perpendicular dip an anisotropy, one order magnitude lower dip-parallel This highlights effect hard linkage rocks emphasizes influence such hampering fluid flow breached fault. • Breaching faults influences thickness, width, faults' properties. permeability, whereas entry pressure. reduced up orders compared host rock. less dip.
